Voiceless

Tea: Blackcurrant

Music: Twisted Sister, "We're Not Gonna Take It"

Time: Night.

Long absence, I know. Death (my wife's other grandmother), illness (mine) and fatigue (ditto).

And tonight, the microphone on my cell phone went out. Not the earpiece, mind you, only the mic. So while I can hear, I cannot speak.

I readily acknowledge that I could be a better listener, but this is ridiculous. And besides, there are words I would say that I can't. And while sometimes that's a good thing, this isn't one of those times.

It sounds like a good time to write down all the things that you would but cannot say. There are advantages. One: What you want to say might surprise you. Two: You have a chance to rephrase before speaking. (Hone those words.) Three: You have a chance to review and consider words, thoughts and feelings. Four: If you're anything like me (which you might not be), then you have a chance to stop yourself before foot and knee slide down throat. It's like having a three-second delay -- useful in broadcasting and sadly unavailable in daily life.
